Post "Brightness Issues with H.264 QuickTime Movies" fixes
Ever export a H.264 movie and its gamma looks too light?

I've seen this come up several times on these forums dating back months — and possibly longer. I noticed it myself recently when recording on iShowU HD Pro, but also affects Stomp's output by way of QuickTime. It appears to be a rather pervasive yet tricky issue, so have a look:

Neil, maybe this will be of help pointing future people wondering about it? So they don't mistakenly think it's because of your software. :)

I should experiment with this more - thank you for the link.

Are you essentially saying that if I get iShowU (or even Stomp!) to strip the Gamma tag - that it could make a +ve difference most of the time? I suspect that stripping that tag won't be "that" hard (har har, well see - it's QT after all).

I hadn't explicitly said that yet, but YES, if you could experiment and get Stomp to encode with the correct gamma — you'd solve a long-in-the-tooth pain which would also be a big boon to use Stomp! The gamma-shift is is a BIG detriment to exporting in otherwise-awesome H.264.

No other conversion package I know of works elegantly to address this.

Let me convince you further with my human story: I bought Stomp because you rock, but because of this issue (I haven't managed to get that other gamma tag stripper to work), I still export to H.264 from QuickTime Player Pro on Windows. Being able to do it as a batch from Stomp would accelerate my video production process greatly. Some background: I've made 230+ video tutorials which have nearly 4 million views ( http://secondlife.com/video ), and aside from hard numbers, they've made 1,000s of people happy. So by solving this so I can work quicker, your fine work on Stomp would result in even more delight! Naturally, I'd be compelled to sing your praises.

I don't have my hopes up for Apple solving this anytime soon, and I have faith in you, Neil. =^_^=

OK, I've made a note.
I emailed the creators of the other tool to see if they would share the source.

*If* it's reasonable simple to do it sounds like a no-brainer thing to add to ALL of the products. I imagine removing that atom from the QT movie itself would be a painless operation (hahahhaha. doing something in QT being painless. I crack me up).

Thanks for the +ve comments!
